The Webster Groves Parks Division has been given a grant from Forest ReLeaf of Missouri of 100 trees to be given away as replacements for the problematic pear tree. This generous grant was awarded to the Parks Division who will facilitate the hand-out of replacement trees to any citizen who can show that they have removed a pear tree in their yard. Citizens can simply show a picture of the removed pear (cell phone okay) when they come to pick up their replacement tree.
Trees will be handed out on a first come-first served basis. A maximum of three trees may be given out to each resident depending on availability at the time of pick-up. The Greenspace Advisory Commission will be volunteering at the giveaway and will be available to answer any questions regarding proper planting. We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Commission and Forest Releaf of Missouri to offer this valuable resource.
The Missouri Department of Conservation encourages landowners to remove this invasive species. Please visit:

Lastly, The Parks Division has recently removed 17 Bradford pears along the Jackson Road parking lot in Blackburn Park and have replaced them with bald cypress and black gum trees, and have planted the under-story with flowering perennials. Feel free to stop by and take a look at an example of a living, native landscape that will provide stormwater management, erosion control, beautification, and wildlife habitat for years to come.
Please be sure to use all required COVID safety protocols if participating in the tree giveaway. And, we look forward to seeing you there.
