Adults and children alike are sure to have fun and discover the many ways that trees help us out by completing one of our Mini Tree Hunts. A map will help you find the trees. Each tree included in the hunt has a tag with a specific benefit of that tree. We hope you can share in the excitement of learning more about the many benefits that urban trees provide including their ability to make our rivers cleaner.
Webster-Kirkwood Mini Tree Hunt
Join Deer Creek Watershed Alliance and partners for the Webster-Kirkwood Mini Tree Hunt during October 2011. Those who successfully complete the hunt and find 6 of the 12 tagged trees in the Cities of Kirkwood and Webster Groves (see map) will be entered in a drawing to win a $100 Sugar Creek Gardens gift certificate. In addition, ten runners up will receive redbud or dogwood bag tree seedlings.
How to participate
Download and print the Mini Tree Hunt booklet.* There are 5 numbered trees plus a bonus tree in Kirkwood, and 5 numbered trees plus a bonus tree in Webster Groves. You may use a numbered tree from either city for each activity. For example, for the tree 5 page in the booklet, you can use either tree 5 in Kirkwood, or tree 5 in Webster Groves. Locate the trees using the map below. Then, using the information on the tree tags at each of the corresponding trees, fill in the blanks in the booklet.
* A limited number of booklets are available for pick-up at the Kirkwood Recreation Center, Sugar Creek Gardens, and the Webster Groves City Hall.
Note: Many of the trees included in this hunt are on private property; and the property owners have generously allowed us to use their trees. Tree tags are placed so as to be visible from sidewalks and roads. Please respect the owners’ privacy and refrain from walking on private property.
Turn in your completed booklet to Sugar Creek Gardens by November 3, 2011 to be entered in a drawing to win prizes. The grand prize is a $100 Sugar Creek Gardens gift certificate. Ten additional winners will receive redbud and dogwood bag tree seedlings.
